I live in Colorado Springs and will be hunting Mule Deer in Colorado Game Management Unit (GMU) 511 during 2nd season. Are there any other Colorado hunters here?
I too have drawn my Buck tag here in Colorado and will be hunting just to the south of You in GMU 591 (Fort Carson) took 7 years to draw but am sure it will be well worth it. I know the bucks here well and have a bunch to choose from. I do not intend to shoot anything under 200 inches wioth at least a 30″ spread. I most often hunt archery because it is easier to get a tag and I just plain love getting up close and personal with the bucks I take. This year though, I will hunt with a rifle (300 WSM) and am prepared to shoot long distance if need be to get the buck I want. After this year I will go back to Archery or Muzzle loading season.
Where do you hunt in 511? I have seen some good bucks up behind Rampart but really have not spent a lot of time in the area. I spend most of my time on Carson or over around Buena Vista where my hunting partner lives.

I like to go North on 67 out of Woodland park towards Deckers and past Manitou Lake right where 511 and 51 come together. That's the Winter grazing place for Muleys up there.
